This is basically because the finish determines the longevity of the product in terms of protection against effects or corrosion and exposure to elements. Wet paint has been the most common type of finish used in metal fabrication processes. However, powder coating has become even more popular because of how functional and efficient it is for both sheet metal fabricators and the users of the fabrication products. Powder Coating Finishes Are More Durable

Powder coating results in longest-lasting finishes. This is because higher quality film or coating properties can be achieved. With the conventional solvent-based finishing systems, such as use of wet paint, curing conditions, adjustment of the solvent balance to the required polymeric type and application of the finish are needed. With all these processes, the chances of achieving one hundred percent accuracy can be compromised and this could result in film defects. Powder coating doesn't require all these processes, which enhances the quality of the finish in terms of resistance to corrosion and other impacts. Thicker films can also be achieved with powder coating, which means the finish will be stronger. Lastly, powder coating does not chip, crack or peel easily like the traditional solvent-based systems.

Powder Coating Finishes Are More Cost Effective

In most cases, to increase their returns on their investments, manufacturers will transfer the costs they incur in making a product to the consumers and this is often done through pricing. If they spend a lot manufacturing a product, you are likely to pay more for it. Wet painting is a process that involves quite a lot of labour. First, the solvents used release volatile organic compounds into the environment, which means the system is not environmentally friendly. Fabricators therefore have to find a way to contain the release. These compounds can also be flammable, meaning wet paint coating has to be done in controlled environments. All the processes and stages involved in wet paint coating also takes away valuable time, increasing the downtime of the fabricator's operating activities. With all these factors, fabricators may have to spend a significant amount of money to complete the finishing and to compensate for that, they are likely to charge you more for their paint coated products.
