How to select your perfect refrigerator

Posted on: 20 March 2018

Do you need a new refrigerator? Refrigerators are a vital part of any kitchen, since there are always items such as milk and cream that need to be kept in a cool environment and will soon spoil if left out on the work surface. The difficulty with choosing a refrigerator is knowing exactly where to start. Your new refrigerator is going to be a part of your life for many years so you will need to think carefully about how you will use it and what you really want from your fridge.

What size is your kitchen?

This is probably the most important factor limiting your choice. You can dream about a huge refrigerator stocked with everything you could possibly need but unless you have the space in your kitchen, you can only dream. If you do have a small kitchen, you could opt for a table-top refrigerator to save floor space, but this may not be large enough if you have a family and need to fit all of the shopping for the week into the refrigerator, so a floor standing model will be your only choice.

What are your storage requirements?

If you are single person and just want to store a little milk in your refrigerator, then a table-top model will be fine, but if you need more storage space, then a floor standing model is going to be essential. Once you have decided that you must have a floor standing model, then you will need to think about whether a built-in model would be a good idea or if you would prefer something free-standing.

Built-in models are great if your chief concern is style and creating a perfectly matching kitchen. If storage space is a greater issue than style, it may be better to consider a free-standing model. Free-standing refrigerators often have wider shelving, which is ideal for some of the larger boxes and packets you will need to keep chilled.

How flexible should the refrigerator be?

What does your weekly shopping look like? Do you buy lots of regular sized packets or do you sometimes buy large items that won't fit on the shelves of a standard refrigerator? If you buy large or irregularly shaped items, then it can be a great benefit to be able to move or even remove the shelves inside your refrigerator to accommodate your changing storage needs.

Whatever type of refrigerator you need you will be able to find it at your local stockist. By knowing what type of refrigerator you want to buy you will be able to quickly find the model that is best for you.
