5 Features You Need With Your Gas Treatment System

Posted on: 17 August 2018

You can collect old gas from mines, biogas, or gas from landfills and use it to power a combined heat and power (CHP) unit, but to make the gas usable, you need to run it through a gas treatment system that helps to reduce the moisture in the gas. Thinking about investing in gas treatment systems? Then, you may want to look for the following features.

1. Desulphurisation Vessel

If you're collecting gas from a source such as a mine that has a lot of sulphur, you should look for a gas treatment system that comes with desulphurisation unit. Although sulphur is not toxic and in fact, humans need sulphur, its derivative such as sulphur dioxide and hydrogen sulfide can be toxic. It can also add unwanted odours to your gas, which is why you may want to remove it.

2. Covering Roof

If you plan to use the gas treatment system outside, you should look for a unit that has a covering roof. most of these systems are made with metal that can withstand the elements, but if you want your system to last as long as possible, you should look for some extra protection.

3. Base Frame

Perhaps even more important than the covering is the base frame. This part comes with almost every gas treatment system, and essentially, it's just a large metal platform that all the other components sit on. The base frame protects the other parts of the system from coming in contact with the wet ground, helping to prevent rust and corrosion. Before setting your gas treatment system on the ground, you should make sure the surface is level. That helps the system to work correctly.

4. Thermal Insulation

All the parts of the gas treatment system that comes into contact with gas should be insulated. In particular, that includes the gas and liquid pipelines. If these parts aren't insulated, heat may move from the gas to the other parts of the system, making the external metal hot to the touch and potentially disrupting the treatment process.

5. Mobility

In a lot of cases, you may need the ability to move around your gas treatment system. That allows you to collect gas from the various areas where it is being released around your landfill, mining site, or other areas. To make that possible, you need a gas treatment system that can be mounted on a skid, an open trailer, or an enclosed cargo container.
